Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said Monday he won’t announce a starting quarterback for the regular season until “right before” the opener against the New York Giants.

Shanahan says John Beck and Rex Grossman are “very close right now” and that he’d feel “very comfortable” going into the season with either one.

He also declined to say which one will start Thursday’s game at Baltimore. Grossman got the nod in the first preseason game against Pittsburgh, while Beck started last week at Indianapolis.

Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan says both quarterbacks will play with the starting unit against the Ravens.
